June 2009 Night Kitchen Bakery Earns
Certified Green Restaurant® Status
Night Kitchen Bakery is proud to officially be a Certified Green Restaurant®! The iconic bakery has been serving up cakes, brownies, and sinful sticky buns for 25 years, and recently sought certification from the Green Restaurant Association (GRA). The GRA is a non-profit organization that specializes in helping restaurants become more environmentally sustainable through their certification program and consulting services.
“We’ve baked thousands of cakes and pastries for years, and now we can offer our customers piece of mind too,” says owner, Amy Edelman. “When they see our Certified Green Restaurant® distinction on the window, they’ll know we’re doing our part to conserve energy and water, recycle, and source sustainable ingredients.”
Through their work with the GRA, the bakery has accomplished the following environmental steps in accordance to the non-profit’s guidelines:
Installing a programmable thermostat to ensure that heat and air conditioning is not wasted
Using low flow faucet aerators and spray valves to conserve water
Sourcing recycled and chlorine-free napkins, office paper, and menu paper
In addition, the bakery has a full-scale recycling program, and has eliminated the use of Styrofoam.
"Night Kitchen Bakery is off to a great start in becoming more environmentally sustainable, and we're thrilled about their Certified Green Restaurant® status," says Michael Oshman, Executive Director of the Green Restaurant Association. “With these simple solutions in place, they’re setting a wonderful example in their community. We look forward to helping them make more changes in years to come.”

Wild Things Screening a Howling Success!
Your support of last night's advance screening of the highly anticipated film, Where the Wild Things Are was a wonderful tribute to the Rosenbach. Thanks to all who attended: it was a fabulous evening we won't soon forget.
Held at the Ritz East, the benefit began with a reception at 6:30 p.m. with catering by Frog Commissary and beautiful Wild Things cookies from the Night Kitchen Bakery. All proceeds from this fundraising event went to support programs and exhibitions at the Rosenbach.
June, 2009 Patti LaBelle marks her 65th birthday with KeVen Parker (right) at his South Street restaurant, Ms. Tootsie's. The cake, created by Chestnut Hill's Night Kitchen Bakery to reflect LaBelle's love for footwear, was cut last Sunday.
Our cake decorating fundraiser at Sundays Garden Festival was a huge success! We raised $350 for St. Vincent De Paul's soup kitchen in Germantown. Mayoral candidate Michael Nutter along with tv personalities Larry Mendte, Dawn Stensland, Dawn Timmeney and Anita Brikman each decorated a cake that was auctioned off to the highest bidders. Winners were Barbra Shivy(2 cakes!), Ed Berg, Lyles Perkins and Laura Reale. Thank you all for your generosity!
